Statements

Jerzy Woźniak
Architect (Modelina Architekci), Poznan (Poland)

"Being one of three winners of Euroshop Retail Design Award has been a huge surprise for us. It is the best proof that strong, holistic and coherent ideas allow to create a memorable and interesting retail space, no matter the size of the shop or popularity of the brand. The award itself became an impulse for a short and intense trip to Shanghai to attend the glamorous rooftop gala. Thank you!"

Ken Nisch
Chairman (JGA), Southfield (USA)

“To be included in such a rarified group of brands, retailers, and innovators was most exciting for the JGA team. We thank EuroShop RetailDesign Awards for this important and coveted award. The ability to work with great partners, The Hershey Company, Canadian Niagara, and the MGM group, was a key element not only of the professional satisfaction, but of the creative energy that is so much part of the Hershey’s Chocolate World Las Vegas experience.”

Dan Butler
Former Vice President National Retail Federation (NRF), Washington D.C. (USA)

"The EuroShop Retail Design Awards are unique in that they cultivate nominations from all seven continents and every year manage to find the best of the best in store design projects from design firms of all kinds. These awards help to promote retail store design beyond the design community and help to promote the importance of design to the entire global retail community. Most importantly the awards recognize excellence in design that is truly worthy of praise."

Ignaz Gorischek
Vice President, Store Development Neiman Marcus Properties Group

"What a lovely evening, this event is the only one where you can meet some of the the top designers on our field today. The electricity in the room has an after effect for days! Truly a memorable experience."

Martin Pérez
Director Store Planning, Servicios Liverpool, S.A. DE C.V.

"Liverpool is thrilled to be part of a contest in which great designers from many parts of the world participate, the Gala was a great opportunity to get inspired by other people's work and to expand our network, and we are really looking forward to Euroshop in 2014 to get more inspiration."

Tony Zhou (Hershey's Shanghai)

US confectioner Hershey opened its 2.008 sqm tall flagship store in Las Vegas's New York-New York hotel in June 2014. Its frontage boasts larger-than-life candy products; inside the store, a white-and-silver colour scheme and high-gloss terrazzo, wallpapers, graphics and painted walls await customers. Besides New York buildings in chocolate, interactive elements turn the brand products into something customers can experience, e.g. “Flavour walls” and confectionery stands give customers the opportunity to personalize their favourite products. They can star in a specially created Reese's TV ad and share it via the social media. At Hershey’s Chocolate Wrapper Bar, visitors can pose for a photo which then adorns the product packaging and is displayed on an outdoor digital wall on Las Vegas Strip. The store was designed by JGA.

Jablka Adama – “Adam’s Apples” in English – is a combination of the name of the store owner, Adam, and the Apple products that are sold there. The challenge lay in integrating a brand with high recognition value into a non-typical environment. The interior of the small, 60 sqm store designed by Polish architects Modelina Architekci is reminiscent of a fruit market in playful reference to the brand's trademark. For example, to present the products the company uses a wooden sales stall on wheels. Echoing this, the side walls are decorated with brown paper bags. Wooden crates built into the rear wall offer further display space. Two white pendant light fittings create an optical contrast with the store’s predominately wooden materials.

In September 2014, the Italian jeans label Replay opened a flagship store in Milan’s trendy Porta Nuova district. This “multi-experience store” with a selling area of 1,500 sqm is a symbiosis of store design and theatre set. Stage equipment, polished concrete flooring, spotlights against black ceilings and power cables, house walls made with wooden planks and backdrops create a raw but bustling interior. Every backdrop sets a different scene: for example, a modest house from the US Midwest and a tailor’s shop from 1928 Manhattan, where customers can have jeans made to measure. The variable space concept by New York design agency Roman and Williams Interior allows every “set” to be changed rapidly.
